Eat Right for Better Kidney Health

You know the saying, “You are what you eat”. Well, it is true, and that should be a huge wakeup call when you think about it. Chances are you don’t want to be a Big Mac or a Hershey’s Kiss. We all know that some foods are good for us and some foods are bad for us. However, we don’t always think about what bad foods do to our organs. Most people simply worry about putting on weight. Eating the wrong food can do some even worse things than adding a pant size or two. Wrong foods can damage your kidneys

Number 1: Less Salt
Salt in large quantities raises your blood pressure, and increases the potential for kidney damage. Eat fresh food that does not have added salt, and use other seasonings and spices in place of salt whenever possible. Choose low sodium options whenever you have the chance as well.

Number 2: The Right Protein
You also need to have the right type of protein in your diet. Some good options include chicken, eggs, and dairy products. Those who have a less carnivorous appetite can get protein from grains, nuts, and beans. Keep the protein intake in relatively small portions as well. You want enough protein to sustain your muscles – which varies from person to person, but you don’t want to overdo it.

Number 3: No More Frying
You want to stay away from fried foods. Grill or bake instead. Use nonstick cooking spray and stay away from unhealthy fats.
